Having the dual function of a hand-held wand as well as a roadside emergency beacon makes it unique in a class containing products that fulfill either one or the other task but not both. The longer and wider dimensions of the Dorcy 12" wand make it more effective in both drawing attention from afar as well as for marshalling traffic as it nears the scene of an emergency. Weighing about the same as a popular 2XD-cell flashlight, it's light enough for almost anyone to use comfortably. The use of fluorescent (day-glow) red in the LED casing, means that it has very good daytime visibility as well. By using long life 5mm LED's instead of incandescent bulbs, costly and awkward bulb replacements are eliminated .Somewhat resembling a 'light saber' the Dorcy signal wand is easy to wield and the rubber covered pushbutton switch is highly responsive and light to the touch.
